As a newly arrived immigrant family to America penniless, New York City became our home. So life began anew, and it did not take us long to understand, America is truly the land of opportunity.

Life in New York City with its multi ethnic, multi-racial, multi-lingual population, we had no problem becoming acclimatized. We also where multi-lingual, speaking three languages. But English we had yet to learn so that became a top priority!

Work for me as a skilled professional created many opportunities. For the next eight years we worked, played, visited many sights in and around New York City and Long Island.

The most memorable of all: I took my family to visit the Statue of Liberty. We climbed to the top, looked out the windows of her crown at the top of her head. To see this magnificent sky line on Manhattan Island, the New York Harbor, what else can I say? Just the privilege to finally meet you Great Lady. You have a special place in my heart, I will always cherish as long as I shall live. Should I have the privilege to go to Heaven, I gladly will be your advocate before God for the great works you have done for millions of us, the meek, the tired yearning to be FREE.

In 1960, for health reasons, The Catskill Mountains in upstate New York became our new home for the next 18 years. No longer having the opportunity to use public transportation, we joined the crowd on the highways and byways, heading Miss. Dina Shors call to: See the USA in your chevrolet….. only we did it in our brand new 1959 Ford Fair lane 500.

To Montreal, Canada to the north to the Florida Keys to the south became our playground. Our World expanded, and traveling became our passion and it was FUN.

At the same time another mode of travel developed, and matured – The Airline Industry! One could now travel great distances even over the oceans. Now there was an opportunity, but much to0 expensive for us…

In our travels and in business I have learned the principal of “In unity there is strength” (banding together), so a few years later I joined a travel club. This gave us the clout to charter a a big bird from Sabina Airline. The club filled it and I flew for the first time in a plane to Europe.

Hey look we can fly like the creatures with wings, no longer earth bound. It no longer took 11 days to cross the ocean! We left New York in the evening and landed in Europe the next morning. That was the time my world became our playground. Stay tuned, the best it yet to come!
